Our Story
TUCUSA was formed in the late 80’s by Turkana Students in colleges and universities. It was first registered as a self help group and later on changed into an association. TUCUSA is a registered association by the Registrar of Societies in Nairobi, Kenya. We are based in Turkana County with members allover the globe.
TUCUSA was formed to champion for the rights, safeguard and empower the Turkana Student in colleges and universities. The shared vision is to finally transform Turkana County socially, politically and economically. TUCUSA advocates for equal access to higher education. This will lead to an increase in the number of community-oriented professionals. At TUCUSA , we believe that; a hunger-free, developed, enlightened and a peaceful Turkana County is an achievable dream if we invest in the young people.
As an association, whose membership is predominantly youth, we seek to build beneficial partnerships with all willing stakeholders to equip the Youth with the necessary tools to enable them rise above challenges that inhibit their growth to becoming responsible citizens
What we do
We have a culture of giving back to the community that created us,TUCUSA engages in a variety of activities,events and community projects:- Mentorship of students across primary and secondary schools in Turkana County
- Food donation to vulnerable families
- Environment protection through tree planting, town clean up activities
- Issuing of bursaries to students from poor families and linking them with sponsors
- Seeking for job opportunities, internships and attachments to Students.
- Promotion of peaceful co-existence in Conflict-prone zones through engaging youth in sporting events and cultural activities
- Advocate for the rights of young people in Turkana county and Kenya.
- Promotion of talents and abilities.
- Civic education on matters that touch on the Turkana community.
